Seasons at The Turret. Summer days in the Queenstown area are long. The midsummer sun rises as early as 5am and dusk is around 10pm. With the rugged mountains and clear blue lakes, there is something to do for everyone. From sailing and bungy jumping to wine trails, jet boating and tramping, the difficult part is trying to fit everything in. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown and wander down the driveway of The Turret to walk around Lake Hayes, take a paddle on the lake in our two new Kayaks, sit back and relax in our beautiful garden with mountain views or enjoy a glass of wine or take short stroll to nearby Amisfield Winery and Bistro. Autumn is one of the area’s best kept secrets. With warm days and brisk evenings, it is an excellent time to come see the brilliant red and gold autumn colours. Autumn, officially from 1 March to 31 May, is known for stable clear weather. Temperatures typically swing from the mid 10’s to the mid 20’s so you could have a balmy evening one night or a cool evening sitting around our open wood burning fire the next. There is plenty to do in autumn from walks, to horse rides to visiting the local wineries. In addition to the daily activities, you can also plan your stay around the Arrowtown Autumn Festival and no motorsport fan should miss the Silverstone Queenstown International Race to the Sky held through Easter. Being at the Turret in the winter is a magical experience. Whether you have come to ski, just relax or to take advantage of the hundreds of other activities around the region, The Turret is the place to stay. By early afternoon most of Queensown and Arrowtown is sitting in the shadows of the mountains but The Turret is basking in all day long sunshine- on sunny days of course! We are centrally located between the Remarkables and Cornet Peak Ski Fields. Cardrona and the Snow Park are just over the crown rage. We are 15 minutes from Queenstown and 10 minutes from Arrowtown and walking distance to Amisfield- one of the most popular local wineries and bistro. If you are passionate about skiing, you only have to look out of your window to get a breathtaking view of Queenstown's premier ski location, Coronet Peak. We are happy to assist with rentals, and check out the latest conditions. Also, ask James for a locals tips on some of the best runs, or even better yet join James or Kim for a guided tour of the area. If the combination of driving to ski does not appeal to you, how about heliskiing! Let yourself be taken on a short 5 minute drive to catch your helicopter for an unforgettable day of glacier skiing. Spring is one of the most beautiful times of year at The Turret with the picturesque snow capped mountains and the beautiful spring flowers popping up throughout the garden. Skiing and snowboarding continues with a more laid back atmosphere and warmer weather pervades the slopes. It is one of the most amazing experiences to be standing up in the snowy mountains while the lush spring green begins to blanket the valley below. For those who are ready to leave winter behind, the network of walking and biking trails continue to be a year-around highlight. In springtime Queenstown and the surrounding area host many artistic, cultural and sporting events, including the Queenstown JazzFest. “The Turret is the most amazing place to come after a day of skiing. While most of the area is in the shadows of the mountain, the Turret is basking in its all day sun. .” - NZ Ski Team Member and Guest
