Local Activities. At The Turret we can book you onto any one of the many activities that the Queenstown/Arrowtown area has to offer, anything from organising a tee off time at Millbrook to a jump off time at the Karawau Bridge Bungy, and it won't cost you a cent more. Walking in the area is absolutely beautiful with some of the most stunning of the Central Otago scenery on display right on our doorstep. The Lake Hayes walking track is just across the road and takes about about 2.5hrs along a gently undulating track. Historic Arrowtown, born of the goldrush, is also only a 10minute drive away and has some beautiful bush walks and a Chinese Settlement village dating back to the 1860's. It is loaded with quaint boutique stores, a fine selection of restaurants and bars and has one of the top rated museums in New Zealand. Some of the favourites: Skiing and Snowboarding- The Turret is perfectly located to access all of the ski areas in the region. Positioned directly in between Coronet and The Remarkables and Cardrona is only a short 40minute drive away. Let us know if you would like to go skiing and we will make your booking, assist with rentals, and check out the latest conditions. You can also ask James for a locals tips on some of the best runs or even better yet, for a small fee, James or Kim will drive you up to the ski field and give you a guided tour of the area. Heli Skiing- A great way to do some skiing and see the beautiful untouched mountain views is by heli skiing. We will be happy to share our experiences with you and make the arrangements for your trip. Sightseeing by air- Nothing compares to seeing the area by air. We highly recommend as a part of your stay you make time for a helicopter or aeroplane trip to see the pristine lake and mountain views. If you are planning a trip to Fiordland, we would suggest skipping the drive and going over by air for the day. The scenery is absolutely incredible and you have the opportunity to see terrain you would not normally see. Golf- The Turret is perfectly located for the golf enthusiast that wants to play the many courses on offer in the area. The Arrowtown courses of Millbrook, Arrowtown and The Hills are only a 10minute drive to the North and Kelvin Heights and Jack's Point are only a 10minute drive South. Bungy Jumping- No, Kim wouldn’t suggest it unless she gave it a try herself. How can you turn down the opportunity to jump off a bridge at the original birthplace of bungy jumping? Don’t want to jump? It is a great spot to watch others jump or just take a behind the scenes tour of the facilities. The AJ Hacket Kawarau Bridge Bungy is about a 10minute drive from The Turret. Jet Boating- One of New Zealand’s unique activities is jet boating and there are several companies to choose from in the area. Let us help you determine which trip is best for you from an adrenaline packed thrill ride on the Shotover or Skipper's Canyon Jet or a more relaxed ride with pristine scenery on the Kawarau or Dart River Jet. Wine Tasting- The area features a number of great wineries. If you want to enjoy the wine and not worry about driving, we can make arrangements for a wine tour by luxury car, small coach or a helicopter! Also Amisfield Winery and Bistro is within walking distance from The Turret where you can taste the wine and enjoy the gourmet bistro food all while taking in the spectacular view. This is just a small selection of the activities available to you, Queenstown is famous for being the adventure capital of the world so here are some other popular choices: hiking, horse trekking, a trip to Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound or Walter Peak Station on the Earnslaw, hang gliding, paragliding, skydiving, the Skyline Gondola and Luge, river surfing, canyoning, the Canyon Swing, the Nevis Arch, a day trip to Wanaka, Lord of the Rings Tour, four wheel driving, quad biking. Also experience the huge array of restaurants and bars or maybe even jump on the Kiwi Crawl Bar Crawl.
